What Do You See?

I bought this at the thrift shop today with a specific use in mind. I apologize for the angle. The vintage green and cream hot pad is only the photo to give scale (and because the vintage green and cream hot pad makes me happy):

The little bump at the top? That's the kind of serrated strip of metal thingie on the back of pictures, used to hang them on the wall, but I'm going to be removing that piece. When I bought this metal doomaflotchie, it had a garland of plastic grape vines and leaves and flowers all down one side. I took it off and threw most of it away, saving the flowers for flower fairy dolls.

Well, what do you see? Can you guess? What are some ways you can think of to use it? Share some and then see what I am doing with what's in my hand...

We spent three years living in a 1200 square foot house with one bathroom. My kitchen was my kitchen, dining room, laundry room, and the main walkway to and from that one bathroom, the upstairs bedroom where three children sweltered in summer and froze in the winter, the summer kitchen which housed the drier and the freezer and the backdoor... you get the idea. I had three feet of counter space, and NO cupboards anywhere near the oven- I bought the little one you see in this picture, and the front door was covered in rust, hence the fruity contact paper all over it.
I also picked up that lovely green metal... um, thing, over the stove at a second hand store and my husband hung it up to make this great pot-rack. When I bought it the store-owner said, "What is that? Do you know? I like it, but I don't know what it's for." I told her, "I don't know what it's supposed to be, either, but I am using it for a pot-rack!"

My new kitchen is terrific, it really is. I love everything about it. Except.... I miss my pot-rack. The new kitchen is roomy and gloriously devoted only to kitchen things, but by an odd quirk of design, there is no room for the potrack I used to have. The fan over the stove top makes it impossible to hang a pot-rack there. The light and ceiling fan over the island makes it impossible to hang a pot-rack there. Over the sink might work- but it's not handy to the stove.

This area in front of the window and between stove and oven is the only place I might fit a pot-rack:

So that's where my new pot-rack is going. It's not big enough to hold all my pots and pans, but it will hold the three or four I use most often and make my time in the kitchen more productive.

Oh, and in case anybody is wondering, that area by the window isn't nearly so untidy anymore, so the new pot-rack won't look quite as cluttered as you're imagining. =)

Cool idea to use it as a pot rack! I was thinking one big trivet for casserole pans.lolo

I was going to say potrack, then I saw your pic of the green potrack, but I kept readinga and I was right!

It would make a good towel rack/potholder rack too.

I had thought it might be an extra large trivet for all the gathering your family hosts.

Ahh! a pot rack was what I was going to say, I got something close to that at a yard sale and placed flat on the wall, it hangs 3 pots with “S” hooks for me.Potholders would be neat as well.Even kitchen utensils :)

I would honestly figure out a way to turn that into a beautiful Stained Glass piece of art! That’s what I was thinking.

I was thinking it looks a lot like a stained glass window, too. Now I’m going to go see what you’re doing with it! :)
