How do you keep your computer screen clean?  We currently use pop-up wipes that smell suspiciously like plain old rubbing alcohol and look way too much like the ones I use on the baby's behind, but cost far more.  I have a sneaking suspicion that there is a better way.

I use my “used” dryer sheets for this. I only use 1/3 of a dryer sheet in the laundry, and then I reuse it to wipe computer monitors or TV screens.

I use a spray cleaner especially for computer screens and a reusable cloth that comes with it. But once I’m don’t with the bottle I’d like to try a more green solution.

When my dad got a tear in his laptop screen, so I had to do a lot of research on how best to clean it and repair it. The consensus seemed to be that a microfiber cloth is best. We invested in a cheap cleaning kit from Office Depot that has a microfiber cloth in it. When I’m dusting though, if I’ve got a Swiffer Duster handy, I just lightly wipe that over my screen and keyboard to get the worst of the dust off. That’s for our LED screens though…if I’m cleaning mom’s glass monitor, I just use Windex. I also try to make sure I use a disinfectant wipe on the keyboard every so often, especially on our shared computer.

I wonder if you could use the same kind of cloth recommended for prescription glasses with a computer screen?

You guessed right the first time. I work in IT and what we tell our employees is to slightly dampen a Q-tip or cotton pad (something that won’t scratch, flannel or microfiber would also do)and clean it carefully not to get any moisture in the creases or keypad.

When we purchased my laptop last April, I bought some of those stinky ‘puter screen cleanin’ wipes n had the exact question you posted…after my research, I now simply wipe my ‘puter screen with a slightly damp cloth(plain ol’ H2O) and dry with another cloth if necessary.

Cheap n easy ;)

I just bought them “expensive” computer wipes on clearance for about a dollar. For awhile I just didn’t clean it until I sent my computer in and the tech guy did, and found out what I was missing(a clear screen HAHA(joking).

Really the only reason I am commenting is because to say how funny that link you put up was. Now I am going to have to send it to everyone :P .

Thanks!
